bio | November Paynter is Director of ​Programs at the Museum of Contemporary Art Toronto Canada, which will open in spring 2018. She joined the organization in March 2017 during a distinct phase in its evolution, as it moves into the Tower Automotive in the Junction Triangle, with a program dedicated to exhibiting, collecting and nurturing contemporary art and cultural practices that engage with issues relevant to our times. ​Prior to this ​Paynter w​as a founding Associate Director of Research and Programs at SALT, Istanbul and Ankara​, from 2010 until December 2016​; Curator, Platform Garanti, Istanbul (2003-07) and Assistant Curator, 9th International Istanbul Biennial (2004-05). Her freelance curatorial work includes projects for Grazer Kunstverein​, Graz;​ Tate Modern​, London; Philadelphia Museum,​ Philadelphia; Artists Spac​e,​ New York and the Asia Pacific Triennial​,​ Brisbane. Paynter has written on the development of the art scene in Turkey and on various artistic practices for numerous periodicals and publications. While at SALT she sat on the editorial board of the L’Internationale Confederation of museums and worked on the publication The Constituent Museum due to be published in 2018. Other recent editorial work includes These are the tools of the present (2016, Sternberg Press) and Elio Montanari: Quis Erudiet Without Documenta (2015, Mousse Publishing).
