bio | Jabulani Chen Pereira is the Director of Iranti-org, an African Queer Visual Media and Human Rights reporting organization based in Johannesburg, South Africa. The he/she descriptions of gender are limiting and Jabu often uses the pronoun They. Jabulani is a curator and a human rights activist media activist. Jabu has a Masters of Arts degree with a focus on museums and photography from New York University. In 2011-2012 Jabu worked with South African photographer Alf Kumalo, they digitized his collection and worked with the Center for Historical Reenactments in creating an on-site residency at his museum in Soweto. Iranti-org was founded by Jabu and uses photographs, video and audio documentation to engage on issues of sexual orientation and gender identity in Africa. Jabu has curated an exhibition in Cape Town and Johannesburg called “Critically Queer”, this exhibition embodied artists from Nigeria, Zambia, and South Africa. The programme of Iranti-org explores the merging of the arts, visual media and human rights.
